Aloha Brothers,

I sincerely hope you all have had a great start to this new year!

I really apologize for the lapse in time and effort on my part to have get togethers, events or meetings.  There's no excuse, especially since I'm the biggest cheerleader in staying connected.

There has been some exciting news and progress in regards to the restart of the "official" Alumni Association under the alumni advisory committee which Ron and I are participating in.  Mostly Ron, though.  Thanks buddy.

We are forming an alumni basketball team to compete in the equivalent of the turkey bowl and then to compete in the alumni summer league.  I don't know about you but I guarentee there will be alot of walking and minimal movement in the paint on defense from this guy.  Oh wait, then it'll be just like high school.  You could barely get a credit card under my shoe when I jumped........Tragic Johnson!  Anyone interested shoot me a call or email and let me know, I have to give Eddie Klaneski a roster.  Please let me know as soon as you can.

We will be sending out info regarding ALL the news, events and changes soon.

Miss you guys and stay safe!

Mikey

Aloha Everyone,

Charlie Pa would like to invite all alumni to his bar Melrose place in Pearl City for a get together February 7th, 2009, Saturday at 1500 Hrs.  The get together would be a chance for those interested in planning the 25th reunion to get together and start sharing some ideas, also some nice face time with friends etc.  If you need more information just let me know.

Mel Andres '84, has been working closely with the administration of Damien High School in seeking ways to develop the alumni program, and alumni interaction with the school.  Annually the senior class participates in an event known as the "100 day dinner"  The dinner signifies the remaining 100 days left in the school year till the senior class graduates and becomes alumni themselves.  A mentorship program has been approved by the school where interested alumni can be a mentor to a senior to help guide them through to graduation and possibly be a resource for a student seeking a similar career field.  An important purpose of a program such as this is providing a resource to help benefit students at Damien.
The school is encouraging alumni to attend this 100 day dinner which happens March 14th at the school cafeteria @ 5:00 pm.  Tickets are just $25.  I am looking for at least 5 from our class to attend (more is definitely better), so if you are interested in attending please let me know and I will pass it on to the school.  If the mentorship program is also something you would like to participate in, please let me know as well.

Lastly,  the Damien Luau has been set for April 5th.  I am suggesting that our class purchase a VIP table in support for the school and show our pride as alumni.  The table seats 8 and costs $500.  We have money in our class account that could cover this, or individuals that are not hard hit in this economic times can show their generosity by sponsoring the table as a hui.  Again, this would allow us an opportunity to show our committment to the betterment of our Alma Mater.

The 25th reunion will be planned for 2010, and anyone interested in the planning of what should be a fine event, please contact me by e-mail.  I've recieved several e-mails already, and I will be calling on the last planning board asking for their help as well.  We'll be setting a meeting probably in February or March, so let me know.  I hope things are going well for each and everyone of you, and hope to see some of you guys at Charlies place on Feb. 7th.  Much aloha to all of you and continue your success under the motto: Virilter Age.

Sincerly,

Andy
